We did engineering because everybody was doing it and it looked good
We dreamt of getting into IIT coz people in IIT were the bestWe chose colleges on the basis of reputation
We chose branches on the basis of cut off ranks (not me though :) )
We chose to do an MBA coz it was the ‘in thing’
We prepared for CAT because IIMs are the best and IIM grads get the best jobs
We tried for software jobs because they paid the best.
Some of us took Consulting jobs coz its great for a Non MBA to get a consulting profile
We took Science in 11th and were happy and proud of the fact and the same 'we' are now studying Economics and are happy and proud of the fact.
We want to get into I Banks because Finance is the big thing
And If the Finance bubble bursts we shall surely migrate to the next big thing
We read novels when we have to prepare for CAT
We do social work so that we can build our profile for B Schools
We write in our resumes, things we never did
We talk all nicely to our bosses because we have to impress them
We do good things secretly(study/prepare for CAT) and publically deny any such efforts
When we do not crack CAT we say "I was not preparing"
When we cannot face the insult of rejection we say "I could not clear the DI cut off..baaki sab clear hai"
We never say that we didnt clear English cut off coz one who doesnt know English is considered backward
We study coz we want to get marks
We look at the package when we apply for a job
We say that a girl is "sahi" coz of her looks and not her intellect
We spend more time on orkut than on actually meeting friends
We (girls) do not want 'fraandship requests' on orkut but we never lock our album and always put our best pics
We spend more time worrying about losing weight than actually exercising
We are in love with the feeling of being in love
We spend more time wondering "How he is doing so well" rather than "How I can do well"
We shout at people who do not follow traffic rules and we ourselves break them when we arent in a mood to follow
We change our hairstyle after an Aamir Khan movie
We start body building after a Shahrukh Khan movie
We can get up at 5 to watch India-Australia match; We cannot get up at 9 to watch the Republic Day parade
We worship our cricketers when they win T20 World Cup; we paint their houses black when they exit from the World Cup
We get senti after watching Taare Zameen Par but we never pursue our interests
We watch Rang De Basanti, get inspired and forget about it
We read such articles, think for a while and then forget about it....
Will we ever listen to ourselves ?
As Dylan wud have said -
The answer my friend is blowing in the wind
The answer is blowing in the wind

nice post signor..!
and an interesting blog to read overall...!
will keep in touch! :)
cheers!
PS: "read novels wen preparing for CAT.."
i SO hate that phenomenon!
the penetration of the 'ulterior motive' mindset into all our activities makes me sick at times... and to know that nobody is completely free of it, not even me, sends me into a contemplation drive...
sigh.. life.....
When listening to one's own self consumes too much time with no gaurantee of success in this ultra-fast paced Result-Driven World,
there lefts only one easy path i.e. the path of conformist
And some like me follow that path in anticipation of geting enough time from this world to listen to myself.
Regards !!
very well said..
we all know this..but still live with it !!
why don't we break from the shell...why we just imitate..why are we not "ourselves"
everyday I think that today I will break free..I will do what I want to do..what my desire is.but the very next moment I think what others will think of my action and hence waste another day living life as others want me to live !!
sometimes even when I do a thing as per my desire,I feel I am living alone..ignoring the society..which is also not good..I can't live alone!!
ultimately at the end of the day ..it's we ourselves that can make a difference...nobody else can bring that change in us!!
Except for "being in love with the feeling of being in love", I couldn't identify with a single one of those.
And boy, am I glad!
really nice post...
loved it!
